Blue Water Baltimore and Baltimore Tree Trust are both part of the TreeBaltimore partnership, an initiative of Baltimore City Recreation and Parks for all City agencies, organizations, and individuals with the common goal of increasing Baltimore’s tree canopy.
As a result of this partnership, Blue Water Baltimore and Baltimore Tree Trust have collaborated on a variety of forestry projects over the years. We plant trees and remove impervious surfaces, work together on maintenance projects such as pruning and watering, and share best practices and lessons learned from engagement and outreach.
Baltimore Tree Trust spends their time planting and caring for trees, and investing in education and development for those who tend to them. Their Urban Roots Apprenticeship “seeks to connect the dots between city residents and the tree care and landscape industries, which are greatly in need of a strong workforce.” Lessening the barriers between green jobs and Baltimoreans provides a launchpad for program graduates to establish careers in greening.
Baltimore Tree Trust’s trees will not only shade, clean and cool Baltimore’s streets for decades to come, but they also prepare our city for the effects of a changing climate and connect residents with their environment. Blue Water Baltimore is grateful for Baltimore Tree Trust’s partnership and collaboration while we work towards our shared mission of a greener Baltimore.
