BALTIMORE, MD — Blue Water Baltimore, a regional leader working with residents to restore Baltimore’s streams, rivers and Harbor, has selected Tony Bridges as its next executive director.

Mr. Bridges is currently the Assistant Director of SOURCE, the community engagement and service learning center for the Johns Hopkins University Schools of Public Health, Nursing, and Medicine.

Additionally, Mr. Bridges is currently a member of the Maryland General Assembly where he represents the 41st legislative district in Baltimore City. He serves on the Appropriations Committee and previously served on the Environment and Transportation Committee. He is also appointed to the Chesapeake Bay Commission, a tri-state legislative commission created to advise the members of the General Assemblies of Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania on policy action to restore the Bay watershed.

Mr. Bridges has also worked in government as Chief of Staff for the Maryland Transit Administration, and as the Director of Community Outreach for the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives before becoming its Chief of Staff.

This selection reflects the organization’s commitment to ensuring the inclusion of all Baltimore’s communities in protecting the Harbor watershed and everyone who lives, works, and plays here. Mr. Bridges’ experience and managerial approach will support Blue Water Baltimore’s increased priority on cultivating grassroots leadership to address the root causes of water quality problems.

“Tony’s leadership in public and private sectors and demonstrated experience engaging communities will advance and accelerate the collective focus of Blue Water Baltimore and our partners to achieve healthy waterways and strong communities,” said Kevin Shea, Board Chair.

“I’m honored and excited to join the dedicated staff of Blue Water Baltimore,” added Mr. Bridges. “It’s the mission to restore the quality of Baltimore’s waterways to foster a healthy environment, a strong economy, and thriving communities that resonates most with me. I look forward to working together with our neighborhoods, partners, and other stakeholders to move the mission forward.”

Tony Bridges will join the Blue Water Baltimore staff on November 1st. Interim Executive Director Dr. Bob Summers will remain on staff in an advisory capacity during the transition.
