Nature is not more complicated than you think, it is more complicated than you CAN think.

Having just returned from the very exciting New Directions in the American Landscape conference, I posted on the Herring Run Nursery Facebok page a quote famously attributed to Jack Ward Thomas – the controversial chief of the U.S. Forest Service from 1993 to 1996.

The problem is, the quote actually belongs to Frank Edwin Egler.  Egler wrote the famous phrase in 1977, and Jack Thomas repeated it.  Somehow, through the years, the attribution has been give to Thomas at the expense of Egler.

Here is the quote, properly rephrased and attributed:

“Nature is not more complicated than you think, it is more complicated than you CAN think.” ~Frank Edwin Egler
