Stillmeadow Community Fellowship has partnered with Blue Water Baltimore to complete the construction of a new bioswale, a type of Green Stormwater Infrastructure, or “GSI”. This bioswale was installed in an effort to mitigate the flooding that occurs along Frederick Avenue in the Irvington neighborhood of West Baltimore.

For those that remember, in 2018, Frederick Avenue experienced flooding as high as 8 feet on Frederick Avenue. Since then, BWB has been committed to solving storm water runoff issues in the Westgate, Ten Hills, Tremont, and Irvington communities. The Stillmeadow GSI project treats an area of 2.00 acres, 0.69 acres of which is impervious surface, and can filter roughly 11,000 gallons of stormwater before reaching our underground stormwater infrastructure before it joins the Maiden’s Choice Run.

Volunteers will assist Blue Water Baltimore and Stillmeadow Community Fellowship in planting over 1000 plants of different native species! Water, tools and snacks will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Please note there will be limited on-site parking in the parking lot so please be plan to park along Frederick Ave or in the surrounding neighborhood!

This GSI planting event will run concurrently with the annual Spring Free Tree giveaway at Stillmeadow Community Fellowship. Residents of Baltimore City and Baltimore County can choose up to 5 free trees to plant on their property.
