Blue Water Baltimore staff and volunteers were slated to participate in the February 8th Polar Bear Plunge fundraiser. Out of respect for grieving families, and with recovery operations still underway on the Potomac River, CCAN is postponing the event. The National Harbor, the site of this annual plunge for more than a decade, is less than a mile downstream from where the American Airlines plane and the Army helicopter crash occurred. Our hearts go out to the families of the 67 people killed in the accident, and to those involved in the ongoing recovery operations.
Climate change poses significant risks to Baltimore’s communities, waterways, and environment. If we’re going to improve water quality and build strong, resilient communities, we must take ambitious climate actions at every level. As such, Blue Water Baltimore is thrilled to be participating in Chesapeake Climate Action Network’s 20th Annual Polar Bear Plunge to “Keep Winter Cold” on Saturday, February 8th. Our fundraising team of staff and volunteers aims to raise $5,000 before the Plunge, so we are freezin’ for a reason, and we need your support to reach our goal!
For 20 years, activists, friends, and families have shown their commitment to fighting climate change — and keeping winter cold — by taking an icy dip in a body of water (or your backyard!). Plungers recruit friends and family to support them, similar to charity walks. Whether you participate virtually or in-person, be a part of the climate movement and support Blue Water Baltimore as we plunge into freezing waters.
