a group of trees with the words free trees over them

Join us at Stillmeadow Community Fellowship for our annual Spring Free Tree Giveaway this spring and discover the many benefits of native trees! Blue Water Baltimore is partnering with Baltimore County EPS, Baltimore City’s TreeBaltimore and Stillmeadow Community Fellowship to offer a variety of tree species to residents of Baltimore City and Baltimore County to plant in their yards.

From small flowering and fruiting trees to large canopy trees, each one makes a difference in our city. Trees cool and clean our air, absorb stormwater, increase biodiversity, and beautify our neighborhoods. Ultimately contributing to improved water quality by reducing runoff and if located near your home reducing your energy usage to heat and cool your living space.

PLEASE NOTE: This tree giveaway is only open to Baltimore City and Baltimore County residents, and all free trees must be planted on those residents’ yards or properties.

TREE OPTIONS:

We have over 15 trees species available to choose from! Trees range in size from 1′ to 5′ tall in pots that are 1-3 gallons. They can easily fit inside of a small car in the driver, passenger seat, or floor of your backseat. If you bring a pickup truck, please bring a tarp or blanket to cover your trees. Volunteers will be on hand to assist you in packing your trees if needed.

TREE ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Trees must be planted on your property and not in the public right of way, at a school or at a church.
  • The location of the home must be in Baltimore City or County
  • You must be willing to plant and care for your tree until it is mature
  • If you registered for a tree and do not come before noon, it will be offered to anyone who comes.
  • No more than 5 trees can be adopted per household
  • Young trees struggle when planted in the summer heat. Please plant your tree on your property by June 1st or sooner.

Pick-up for pre-ordered trees is between 10am and 12pm. If you pre-ordered a tree, please come during this time! We cannot guarantee your tree(s) will be held if you do not arrive during the designated time. Pick-ups will not begin earlier than 10am.

Walk-up is available from 12pm to 2pm or until we run out of trees. For walk-ups, please come at 12pm for the best selection of trees!

Don’t know where to plant your tree or which tree to select? No worries, we will have expert staff and volunteers at the event who can help you pick the right tree for the correct location on your yard. If you need more guidance, you can check out descriptions of the trees we have available on the order form, and instructions for how to plant and care for your tree are available on our website.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Volunteers are needed to help run the event with the Blue Water Baltimore staff! Volunteers can help with a variety of tasks during the event including setup, tree runners, tree selection experts, traffic flow directors and more. Please be aware that we ask that volunteers attend a virtual volunteer training before the event. Information on the training will be sent to volunteers after registering. Please note there will be limited on-site parking in the parking lot, so volunteers please plan to park along Frederick Ave or in the surrounding neighborhood!

Register below to volunteer and help us give out free trees!

This event will run concurrently with a volunteer planting event in Stillmeadow Community Fellowship’s newly installed bioswale! Volunteers will plant native plants, and learn about how green stormwater infrastructure systems work to filter and reduce polluted stormwater runoff before entering our waterways. This event will run concurrently with the giveaway, so please consider lending a hand before or after you pick up your free trees! For more information on the planting, please click here.
