Sudbrook Park Invasive Removal & Bug Blitz

Saturday, July 9 • 9:00 am12:00 pm

Learn more about Baltimore water issues and how to help protect our waterways.

Join Sudbrook Park residents and Blue Water Baltimore staff for two simultaneous events in northwest Baltimore- an invasive vine pull and a bug blitz.

Free the Trees! Together we will remove invasive vines from covering young trees planted in the park. As the vines grow up the trunk, they choke out the tree and will eventually kill it. The resulting dead trees then increase the erosion of the stream banks and hasten the decline of this valuable urban green space.

Tools and gloves will be provided but feel free to bring your own hand pruners and loppers. Long sleeves and pants recommended. Don’t forget your boots, it’s swampy out there!

Join our Bug Blitz! The rocks, roots, and riffles of our local Baltimore rivers are rife with benthic macroinvertebrate life, better known as water bugs! These tiny creatures are a big indicator of waterway health. Join Blue Water Baltimore staff to explore a local stream, search for and identify benthic macroinvertebrates, and learn about types of pollution that can affect their — and our– environment.

Both events will run 9-12 at Sudbrook Park.
