Happy New Year from Blue Water Baltimore!

The New Year provides an opportunity for all of us – Blue Water Baltimore’s dedicated volunteers, supporters, partners, friends, staff and board members – to reflect on our collective efforts to protect Baltimore’s rivers, streams and Harbor, and to renew our commitment to achieve clean water and protect the health of our communities as we move forward in 2017.

Blue Water Baltimore has some announcements to share. First, we say farewell to our Executive Director, Halle Van der Gaag. We are grateful for her dedication and commitment over the past 6 years. Blue Water Baltimore grew tremendously under Halle’s leadership, becoming the leading watershed organization in Baltimore and helping countless residents and communities make Baltimore cleaner and greener. Carl Simon, our experienced Director of Programs, has been appointed as interim Executive Director while the Board of Directors searches for a permanent replacement.

We are also delighted to welcome Angela Haren as the Baltimore Harbor Waterkeeper and Director of Advocacy. Angela is an environmental and natural resource attorney with extensive experience in marine and freshwater resource management.  She brings over twelve years of nonprofit experience to Blue Water Baltimore, including work for the Natural Resources Defense Council and California Coastkeeper Alliance. Angela’s expertise will be a huge asset to our team.

We look forward to all that is in store for Blue Water Baltimore in 2017 and we will share more exciting news in the coming weeks. Thank you for your support and for all that you do to protect our environment and waterways. Together, we can achieve great things!

Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2017!

Fiona Newton

Chair, Board of Directors
