Halle Van der Gaag Appointed as New Executive Director of Blue Water Baltimore

Blue Water Baltimore’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce Halle Van der Gaag as our new Executive Director. Having served as the Deputy Director of Blue Water Baltimore since its creation in 2010, Halle will immediately and seamlessly take the helm of the organization as it looks to expand its volunteer programs, grow its technical capacity and increase fundraising activities.

Halle is the ideal person based on her knowledge of the organization, its programs, and its advocacy goals. She brings extensive expertise in the areas of critical programming, government affairs and operations.

Halle is an experienced non-profit executive and expert on issues of water quality and land use who has held management positions with the Trust for Public Land and the Parks & People Foundation. More recently, she was the Executive Director of the Jones Falls Watershed Association (JFWA) for five years and was instrumental in merging the JFWA with four regional water quality organizations to create Blue Water Baltimore – the leading advocate for waterways in Central Maryland.

Halle’s passion and determination to see measurable improvements in the health of our waterways, as well as her technical competence will help to ensure Blue Water Baltimore’s trajectory as an organization. Blue Water Baltimore will have an impact not just on streams—like the Herring Run, Jones Falls and Gwynns Falls—but on our big rivers like the Patapsco and Back River which directly feed the Chesapeake Bay.

We are now a full service organization able to execute programs and projects ranging from tree plantings and land based restoration projects to holding polluters legally accountable. Along with thousands of volunteers, Halle and the entire staff team at Blue Water do an amazing job every day restoring and protecting our waterways and helping create cleaner and healthier communities throughout the Baltimore area.

We are excited to have her as the leader of Blue Water Baltimore – please join me and the entire Board of Directors in welcoming her to her new role and I hope to see you at one of our many fall events and activities!
