Celebrate the Clean Water Act: Swimmable Action Day
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act, and in celebration the Baltimore Harbor Waterkeeper and Blue Water Baltimore are joining the Waterkeeper Alliance in promoting clean, swimmable waters. The Waterkeeper Alliance has designated today, July 26th, as “Swimmable Action Day.” Few cities depend on water more than Baltimore does, and we are committed to providing clean and healthy streams and a fishable, swimmable Harbor to our children.
So get in the water! Swim, paddle or sail: just have fun and be safe.
We’d love for you celebrate the Clean Water Act by sharing your pictures and videos illustrating the ways YOU depend on clean rivers and beaches to live and enjoy your life. Post them to our Baltimore Harbor Waterkeeper Facebook page!
We want to encourage you to call/email/target your Congressperson and/or Senator and tell them to “Go Jump in a Lake,” and to promote OUR swimmable waterways, protect OUR right to clean swimmable waters, and support Clean Water Act funding for continued beach monitoring! Send them the pictures of you swimming and hanging out near the water! Here are links to your Congressional Contacts: House and Senate.
And if you are on Twitter, please follow us at @BlueWaterBmore. The Waterkeeper Alliance has set up a specific Twitter hashtag for those who use twitter to use throughout the year for the Clean Water Act 40th anniversary actions: #swimdrinkfish. Please add this to your tweets and let’s try to get our efforts to be a trending topic on Twitter.
